Research and Innovation
At Futamura, innovation starts with cellulose. For decades, we’ve been global leaders in cellulose film production, specialising in renewable, compostable alternatives to traditional plastic packaging. Now, with ACORN™, we’re expanding that expertise beyond packaging into new, groundbreaking applications for renewable materials.
As awareness of the environmental impact of fossil-based plastics grows, so does the demand for sustainable alternatives – not just for packaging, but across industries including cosmetics, paints, coatings, agriculture, and healthcare. ACORN™ is our commitment to finding natural solutions to plastic problems – together.
Advanced Cellulosic Open Research Network (ACORN™) is Futamura’s collaborative research and development platform, designed to bring together innovators, researchers, and organisations with one shared goal: to develop sustainable, cellulose-based alternatives for fossil plastic in diverse industries.
Cellulose-based microspheres. We are actively working on solutions from 1um – 1mm for a range of end uses including cosmetics, coatings and industrial applications.
